Muscular-walled vessels (tubes) that carry oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body. The only exception to this is the pulmonary artery, which carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs to pick up oxygen and release carbon dioxide (CO₂).
